3 easy ways to make your marketing more inclusive

We live in a fabulously diverse world and when it comes to your marketing and content it’s important that its welcoming and accessible to a everyone.

By being more inclusive when it comes to your marketing you will not only create a positive experience for all, but you’ll also reach a broader audience.

There are loads of different ways you can make your marketing more inclusive, in this blog, post we’ll focus on three ways that are easy to implement.

#CapitaliseYourHashtags

Starting off with something that’s very quick and easy to implement - capitalising your hashtags.

Doing this not only makes your hashtags easier to read for everyone (#susanalbumparty anyone?!), but most importantly, it’s more accessible as when it comes to hashtags, screen readers rely on capitalization to identify each word in the hashtag and read it aloud accurately.

User experience

When it comes to accessibility a seamless user experience on your website is vital as it makes your messages and content more accessible and enjoyable for everyone.

  • Make sure your website is easy to navigate and that your content can be viewed on different devices and screen sizes.

  • Ensure that your alt tags contain accurate descriptions of the images. I know we can also use them for keywords. However, their primary purpose is to describe what the image is for visually impaired users. It’s important that what you put in here accurately describes what the image shows as well as using the space for keywords and other info.

  • Use clear fonts, sizes and styles to ensure your messages are easy to read and check the colour contrast between text and backgrounds or on any images and graphics to make sure all the text is visible.

Showcase diversity

We all like to see ourselves reflected in our fave brands marketing, whether that is in the imagery used, language used or the sort of content created and shared, your customers are no different.

Take some time to review the imagery / graphics you are currently using, could you change the mix up to show a more diverse range of individuals? Think about things such ad race, age, disability, gender, language, and sexual orientation as well as other factors, such as parental and relationship statuses.

Language is also important so whilst you will have a house style it’s important to ensure you are using inclusive language and that your messages show respect for different cultures and communities.

Finally if your target market are based in places that are multilingual think about translating your marketing materials that are placed in these areas or perhaps share social posts that are in multiple languages.

Inclusivity is a huge and important topic and whilst this is very much a whistle-stop tour I hope this blog post has given you some ideas on how to be more inclusive within your small business and how to create a welcoming positive space for all your customers.
